Accra, March 20, GNA – The Minority in Parliament Thursday condemned the raid on the private residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, by the National Security operatives.

Mr Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, called on the Government to quickly bring a stop to those acts, saying: “These acts of intimidation and terror are relics of the past.”

“The aim of their lawless conduct was to intimate and frustrate the appointees of former President Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said.

Armed men numbering about 20, led by Mr Richard Jakpa, the Director of Operations, National Security, allegedly raided the private residence of Dr Addison on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Roman Ridge in Accra.

Dr Addison was at home when the heavily armed men, some in balaclavas, wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, showed up to conduct a search.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said Ghana was a mature democracy and things needed to be done properly and better.

He said three official vehicles of the former Governor were also driven away, but Dr Addison was later called by Mr Jakpa that they were parked somewhere, so he could send drivers to pick them up.

“These actions undermine democracy and weigh down investor confidence,” he said.

“If you have people investing in your country, and they see these things happening to appointees, obviously it will lead to capital flight. Even the citizens of Ghana will not feel safe.”

The Minority Leader said investors would withdraw from the financial sector and that it would affect governance and the growth of the economy.

He alleged that their actions were very traumatising and at the end of their raid, they could not find anything but unfortunately for the Governor, an amount of GH₵10,000 on his bed could not be found.

Mr Afenyo Markin said the Governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also missing, adding that ‘in other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces.”

The team from the National Security was said to have ransacked the house but found no vaults nor large amounts of cash.

They allegedly disabled the CCTV system at the property and demanded that Dr Addison led them to the “vaults” in his house, but the former Governor told them that he had no vaults or any such cache of cash at home.

According to Mr Jakpa, he had a warrant to search the premises of Dr Addison.
