Accra, March 27, GNA – Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister of Interior, has lauded the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for maintaining peace and unity among its workforce.

He said such efforts fostered brotherhood and created a work environment where everyone felt valued, respected, and empowered to contribute to national development.

The minister gave the commendation in a speech read on his behalf at the 2025 annual Iftar thanksgiving and commissioning of the GNFS Headquarters Mosque in Accra.

He stated that the GNFS played a crucial role in safeguarding lives and property, noting that this responsibility demanded teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect among personnel from diverse religious backgrounds.

The event was held on the theme, “Peace: The Pivot to National Development and Religious Tolerance – Key to Productivity in Our Work Environment.”

Alhaji Muntaka said the theme was not only timely but also highly relevant to the collective aspirations as a nation.

“Peace is the foundation upon which progress and development thrive. Without peace, our efforts toward national transformation, economic prosperity, and social cohesion would be hindered.

“It is in this spirit that we gather today, during this holy month of Ramadan, to observe Iftar, a sacred moment of reflection, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to the values of patience, humility, and generosity,” he said.

The minister noted that Ramadan was not just a time of fasting but also a period for devotion, self-discipline, and unity where Muslims pray, support one another, and give back to society.

He said the newly commissioned mosque would serve as a place of spiritual rejuvenation and guidance for GNFS personnel and others, urging Muslims to uphold peace, unity, and religious tolerance in Ghana.

Mrs. Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, Chief Fire Officer of GNFS, assured the mosque would be well maintained and serve future generations.

She credited the GNFS Imam and team for their efforts in realizing the project.

Mrs. Ntow Sarpong noted the peaceful coexistence among GNFS personnel, regardless of faith, in fulfilling their mandate as lifesavers.

“My vision is to build a vibrant fire service that is not only responsive and efficient but also comparable to international standards,” she stated.

The event honored individuals and institutions whose support contributed to the mosque’s completion.
