Tumu (UWR), March 3, GNA – Miss Hatontie Joyce Gomina’s hard work and dedication as a loan officer with the Vision Fund Ghana have earned her recognition at the continental level for using loans to better the lives of women and increase her loan recovery targets.
She won the Best Field Star for Vision Fund International and received a star plaque and a certificate at an event held in Senegal.
Miss Hatontie’s perseverance and resilience helped her transition from managing a modest portfolio of GH¢ 9,410.86 to achieving the largest portfolio of GHS 1,577,745.12 in Vision Fund Ghana by June 2024, solidifying her reputation as the top loan officer.
After winning the award at the African level, Miss Hatontie expressed gratitude to God, her supervisors and co-workers for supporting her throughout her journey to achieve that laurel.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tumu, Miss Hatontie also thanked the women’s groups she worked with for their cooperation in helping her spotlight the name of her community to an international event.
When asked about the significance of the award, she said: “My motivation is always to serve my clients to their satisfaction, and I feel encouraged to do more. My client’s lives are also changing”.
Talking about the challenges as a community loan officer, Miss Hatontie mentioned access to the communities because of poor roads network and the fear of attack by armed robbers.
She also mentioned building confidence and trust of the communities in her and Vision Ghana was necessary for excelling in that job.
She said there was inadequate support for women in agriculture, irrigation, and finance, especially that they heavily depended on agriculture in this part of the country and appealed for support for women in that regard.
She further appealed for a dedicated fund from the District Assembly Common Fund to support women in agriculture, emphasising that irrigation should be prioritized to address the unpredictable nature of rainfall.
Miss Hatontie’s ability to build trust and educate clients about wise borrowing practices and business growth significantly contributed to her success.
Her hands-on approach and dedication to educating communities about the benefits of loans and financial management led to a significant increase in her client base from 237 to 1,858 clients.
She assured clients of the benefits and security of Vision Fund Ghana’s loans, encouraging them to invest in their businesses and trust the process.
