Let’s realign priorities and adopt bold strategies for better future — Keta MCD

Keta (VR), March 6, GNA – Mr Innocent Gavua, the Keta Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) and the acting Municipal Chief Executive (MCE),in the Volta region has urged the public to realign the nation’s priorities and adopt better strategies to propel the country forward.  

This, he believed, would improve and uplift the standard of the nation, if the public reset their commitment to unity, patriotism with more inclusiveness, integrity and hard work for nation building.  

Mr Gavua, in his address, to commemorate Ghana’s 68th independence day celebration at the forecourt of the Keta Municipal Assembly, emphasised that the public should acknowledge the achievements and confront other shortcomings. 

“Since independence, Ghana has made remarkable strides in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and democratic governance, we have natured a vibrant multi-culture, maintained peace and contributed to global discourse,” he said. 

He said with all the achievements, Ghana still faced some challenges which include massive unemployment, severe economic challenges, and social inequalities which called for reflection to draw valuable lessons to shape a better tomorrow.  

He said for the country to experience better setting,  the government should foster an environment that safeguards and promotes entrepreneurship and innovation, and preserve cultural heritage.  

“In reviewing our current state, we must be honest about the gaps that hinder our progress as a nation. We must examine our policies, institutions, governance system to ensure they align with the needs of our people and promote investing in education and skills development of youth.” 

Mr Gavua said that the journey of nation-building was not a responsibility of government alone but a collective duty by all and sundry and urged leaders, educators, public servants, farmers, parent and others to help instill value of honesty, respect and integrity in children.  

He said that, “as we celebrate this memorable occasion today, let us rekindle the spirit of patriotism and renew our resolve to build the Ghana that is prosperous and promote envision, equity, freedom peaceful and proud upholds equity and Justice.” 

Meanwhile, only cadets of two school, which include Keta Senior High Technical (Ketasco) school and Keta Business College (KetaBusco) participated in the Municipal independence parade due to the new directives from the assembly. 

Some residents and students GNA spoke with, expressed mixed reaction on the new changes while some called for broader involvement of students in the subsequent independence day celebration parade with other embracing the  changes.  

The Municipal independence day celebration was attended by teachers, heads of institutions, Assembly members, among others while a certificate was awarded to participated school cadets. 

The theme of this year’s independence day celebration was,” Reflect, Review, Reset.”
