Odumase-Krobo(E/R), March 18, GNA – Kodjonya Millennium Presbyterian JHS has emerged victorious in the 2025 Independence Day quiz competition organised by the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The event, held to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, tested the students’ understanding of Ghana’s history, the 1992 Constitution, governance, civic rights, and current affairs.

The quiz, which was themed “Ghana’s Future, Our Collective Responsibility,” saw Kodjonya Millennium Presbyterian Basic School triumph with a total of 60 points.

They triumphed over strong competitors: Agormanya R/C JHS with 53 points, Odumase-Krobo Anglican JHS with 45 points, and AGS Coastland JHS with 46 points.

As part of the prize, Kodjonya Millennium Presby JHS was awarded a certificate, a wall clock, a pack of exercise books, and two copies of the 1992 Constitution.

The other participating schools were also recognised and received certificates, exercise books, and a copy of the Constitution each.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including officials from the NCCE, Ghana Education Service (GES), Social Welfare, and the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), alongside teachers and community leaders.

The quiz competition aimed not only to celebrate Ghana’s independence but also to deepen students’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Pamela Bruce, the Assistant Municipal Director of NCCE for Lower Manya Krobo, emphasised the importance of the quiz as an educational initiative.

“As we mark significant milestones in our nation’s history, it is essential that we reflect on the values and principles that have shaped our democracy,” she said.

Adding, “The Constitution is the foundation upon which our nation is built, and it is crucial that our young people understand its provisions and significance.”

She explained that the quiz competition was designed to foster active citizenship and patriotism among the youth, and by empowering students with knowledge about the Constitution and their civic rights, the NCCE aims to nurture a generation of informed and responsible citizens.

“We believe that by empowering young people with knowledge and critical thinking skills, we can build a more informed and engaged citizenry,” she stated.

The students’ responses during the quiz showcased a high level of preparedness, particularly in topics related to the Constitution, current affairs, and governance.

The quiz served as an important reminder of the role education plays in equipping the younger generation with the tools they need to participate meaningfully in national development.

Master. Teye Fredrick, the leader of the winning team from Kodjonya Millennium Presbyterian, shared his excitement and pride after the victory.

He described the competition as a valuable learning experience that deepened his understanding of the 1992 Constitution.

“As a citizen of Ghana, you need to know about your Constitution—not just for academic purposes, but because it helps you understand your rights and responsibilities,” he said.

He expressed his commitment to sharing what he had learnt with his peers, saying: “I’m going to educate my friends about the experience I had here, because some of them have faced discrimination simply because they didn’t know what the Constitution says.”

He also noted that participating in the quiz helped him overcome low self-esteem, emphasising the personal growth that can come from engaging with such important topics.

Ms. Jennifer Appiah, a teacher at Odumase-Krobo Anglican JHS, underscored the importance of frequent quiz competitions in expanding students’ knowledge and encouraging a deep understanding of their rights as citizens.

“When such quiz competitions are organised frequently, they broaden students’ horizons and help them improve their lives,” she said.
