Keta (VR), March 17, GNA – Residents in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region are demanding explanation from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the frequent power outages in their communities.
They complained that the frequent power outages, which commenced about two weeks ago was distracting their work and called for urgent attention to address the challenges.
Mr Clinton Agbesi, a Fashion Designer at Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said that there must be a proper explanation from ECG on the power outages.
“I think ECG needs to give detail explanation about why we are experiencing frequent unstable power supply in Keta and the surrounding communities for close to two weeks now, and this is affecting our daily works,” he said.
Mr Agbesi expressed worry over how insufficient power supply was affecting their daily activities, forcing several other workers to work beyond closing hours, “since nobody knows when they will take the power-off, and when it will be restored.”
He appealed to the hierarchies of the ECG in the area to boldly come out and as a matter of urgency explain the challenges to the public and address them to ensure at least 24-hour stable power supply to help sustain businesses economic activities in the area.
“If the ECG thinks the challenges, they are facing is bigger and cannot be resolve as soon as possible, then I suggest that they should give us a timetable to alert consumers to plan properly to prevent damages to our machines.”
Madam Selinam Celestine Kemeh, a cold-store owner at Nukpesekope, a suburb of Keta, also lamented to GNA about how the frequent power outages have damaged some of her freezers which affected her daily businesses outputs.
Some other business which includes restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, guess houses, night clubs, among others, said that the insufficient power supply especially at night has forced many to use generators which consumed more fuel which were expensive as well.
Madam Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), told the GNA in an interview that, the challenges would be rectify as soon as possible adding that, “initially the ECG have challenges at the tidal wave communities due to the distraction caused by the devastating but was rectified.”
She said reports of the frequent power outages had been received and their team of engineers were working hard to resolve it as soon as possible to restore regular power supply and urged the residents to remain calm as the ECG check and rectify any challenges identified.
