Aburi (E/R), Mar 05, GNA – International Child Development Programme (ICDP) Ghana, has organized a one-day training for social groups in Akuapem South Municipality to empower them to freely express their opinions towards nation building.
This initiative was sponsored by Star Ghana Foundation with support from Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Speaking on behalf of ICDP Ghana, Nana Adwoa Afriyie Bonsu, said building a robust social ecosystem for national development required a greater collaboration where every person’s opinion was considered regardless of gender, personality and socio-economic status.
She pointed out that peculiarities of the diverse social groups must be reflected in designing developmental interventions as a means of addressing inequalities in society.
Madam Thelma Thompson, a Social Development Expert, on her part, called on duty bearers, families and community people to put in affirmative action measures in all their dealings to ensure equal opportunity for all.
The Ghana News Agency’s interaction with people living with disabilities (PWDs) at the function, revealed their apprehensions about accessibility of public spaces.
They were of the view that 19 years after the passage of the Disability Act,with an additional nine years of expiration of the grace period, there are many buildings that are not in compliance with the provisions of the Act regarding accessibility.
