Huni-Valley SHS launches Golden Jubilee anniversary

Huni-Valley (W/R), Mar. 2, GNA-Huni-Valley Senior High School in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality has launched its 50th anniversary themed: “50 Years of excellence in secondary education: the role of stakeholders”.  

The event, which was held at the Hunivass assembly hall was attended by traditional leaders, alumni, staff, students and cooperate institutions.  

The celebration would kick off with a bonfire event on Saturday, November 22, and continue from November 24 to November 30, 2025, with exciting activities.   

Delivering a talk on the theme: “The role of parents and traditional authorities in promoting secondary education,” Mr George Effah, the Western Regional Director of Education, said parents played a vital role in their children’s education.  

He said to ensure academic success, parents should take active interest in their children’s education by monitoring their progress, attending school meetings, and engaging teachers to understand their child’s academic strengths and weaknesses.  

Mr Effah charged parents to provide the essential tools and resources such as textbooks, school uniforms, exercise books, pens, calculators among others to ensure their children have the best foundation for learning.  

“Financial support is crucial, but equally important is moral encouragement, showing children that their efforts are valued and celebrated and very necessary” he noted  

Mr Effah remarked that education was not just about academics, but also character development, urged parents to instil values such as respect, responsibility, and hard work in their children to enable them to become responsible citizens.  

He appealed to chiefs and elders in the region to rally community members, business owner, and external donors to support the school development initiatives, adding, their leadership in fostering community development could help upgrade school infrastructure, establish scholarships, bursaries, and strengthens educational institutions.   

He congratulated management of the school, staff, students, alumni, and all stakeholders who have contributed to the institution’s remarkable success story.   

Mr Daniel Kwabena Aidoo, Headmaster of the institution, stated that the school started in November 1975 with an initial student population of 90, but currently has an enrolment of 1,662 students, supported by a team of 120 dedicated staff members.   

He gave the assurance that the celebration would be carefully moderated to ensure that enough contact hours were preserved, minimizing disruptions of the academic calendar.   

Additionally, Mr Aidoo entreated the students to emulate the efforts of past students by giving back to the school after graduation, thereby continuing a legacy of alumni support.   

Providing details on the programme, Nana Dr Toni Aubynn, Chairperson of the Anniversary Steering Committee, said the committee plans to host a second launch in Kumasi, followed by a grand national launch in Accra, where they would announce to the world that Hunivass is 50 years.   

“We have our anniversary logo, cloth, and T-shirts, which are ready to be unveiled. In line with the digital age, the committee has decided to launch these items online, to make it easier for everyone to access and share in the celebration” he revealed  

Mr Kofi Arhin, the President of Huni-Valley Senior High School Old Students Association (HOSA), emphasized that “As proud alumni, we have a profound responsibility to give back to our beloved institution by supporting the next generation of leaders, upholding the timeless value instilled in us, and ensuring that the legacy of Hunivass continues to thrive and excel.   

He expressed the associations appreciation to their esteemed former and current teachers, domestic and administrative staff for ensuring the smooth operation of the institution.   

“To our alumni, we express our heartfelt gratitude for embodying the spirit of Hunivass and making a profound impact in the world. Your achievements are a testament to the institution’s legacy” Mr Arhin said.
