Growing homosexuality fuels HIV spread in Berekum Municipality-Health Director

By Benjamin Asomah

Berekum, (Bono), March 6, GNA – Mr Jacob K Aleeba, the Berekum East Municipal Health Director in the Bono Region, has expressed worry about the growing trend of homosexuality in the Municipality.

He said the practice was also contributing to the surge in HIV infections and called for concerted action to stem the practice and bring the new HIV infections under control.

Mr Aleeba raised the concern in an interview with the media on the side-lines of the 2024 Annual Review Meeting of the Directorate held at Berekum, and attended by health workers and other stakeholders.

“Berekum East municipality is now ranked high in HIV and AIDS because gay practice is also high”, he stated, worrying about reckless sexual behaviours and urged the people to change their bad attitudes towards sex.

He said anaemia in pregnancy also remained high which was seen among about 40 percent of pregnant women and advised pregnant women to eat well and balanced their diet too.

Nonetheless, Mr Aleeba commended the health professionals for their hard work, and urged them to work harder for the municipality to achieve useful health outcomes in 2025.
