Accra, March 28, GNA – The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says it has not commenced any enforcement actions against Mr Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the Founder of Bills Micro-Credit Limited, including freezing of his bank accounts.
The Authority has, however, issued an assessment on him relating to his income taxes.
A statement issued in Accra on Thursday by the GRA, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said it had noticed publications on various social media and other platforms purporting that the Authority had frozen the bank accounts of Mr Quaye.
The reports also alleged a personal income tax assessment of GH₵30 million being raised on him.
The GRA said it had engaged all taxpayers to assess their incomes and followed a standard procedure in communicating with them.
“These processes include writing to request taxpayers to voluntarily declare their income; raising assessments when they fail to declare their income by the due date, and following due processes to request for the payment of the tax due,” it said.
“The enforcement actions such as garnishment of accounts were resorted to only after taxpayers have refused to cooperate with the Authority following the tax assessments raised.”
The Authority, therefore, requested the public to disregard those publications and urged all eligible taxpayers to voluntarily disclose incomes earned.
It urged all to pay the taxes due the GRA to avoid the payment of penalties and interests as well as facing other sanctions.
“The GRA wants to use this opportunity to reassure its taxpayers and the public of its commitment and adherence to its values of fairness, integrity, responsiveness, service and teamwork,” the statement said.
