Accra, Mar. 18, GNA -The Ministry of Education, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Greater Accra Regional Minister have donated relief items to affected students of the Labone Senior High School fire outbreak.
The items include 300 student mattresses, 20 packets of roofing sheets, 2 boxes of roofing nails, 350 mosquito nets, 350 pieces each of blankets, plastic buckets, plates, and cups.
This is to help the distressed students affected by the fire outbreak and help bring back normalcy to school activities.
Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, handing over the items applauded the headmistress and staff for their swift effort to get a temporary accommodation for the students affected by the fire outbreak.
He said arrangements were being made to augment available infrastructure to ease pressure on the current infrastructure, adding that the immediate action taken to restore the affected buildings and make them worthy of human habitation could attest to that.
“As you have noticed, workmen are on site to fix the building,” he added.
Dr Apaak assured parents, guardians, and the public that the government was working hard to bring back normalcy to the school.

Major (RTD) Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, the Director General of NADMO, said the donation would help bring immediate relief to the affected students.
“To reset Ghana is to synergize effort anytime we are required to make an action so that it will be more impactful on society,” he said
He called on stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and the school’s administration, to help make the situation better.
Mr Rejoice Akua Acorlor, Headmistress of Labone SHS, thanked the government for the donation, saying, “This would impact the lives of the students significantly. The items would be used efficiently and effectively.”
The fire, which occurred on Sunday, March 15, swept through three girls’ dormitories while students were attending their afternoon prep, leaving three unaffected.
Out of the three dormitories affected, one was destroyed, affecting 155 students, while the two others suffered partial damage.
The Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
