Gory crash on Duayaw-Nkwanta-Bechem highway leaves five people dead

Duayaw-Nkwanta, (Ahafo), March 27, GNA – Five people have been confirmed dead in a tragic crash that happened between the Duayaw-Nkwanta and Bechem portions of the Sunyani-Kumasi highway in the early hours of Wednesday. 

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that the bodies had since been deposited at the Bechem Government and the Duayaw-Nkwanta St John of God Hospitals for preservation and autopsy. 

Others are also in critical condition responding to treatment at the hospitals in the Ahafo Region. 

The Station Officer Grade Two (STO II) Stephen Kyere of the Tano North Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) told the GNA that the crash happened at the Bourkrukruwa portion of the road around 0553 hours Wednesday March 26, 2025. 

He explained that the crash happened when a private Toyota RAV4 vehicle with registration 4365-20 collided head-on with a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GT 5335-19. 

The Toyota RAV4 was heading towards Bechem and the Kia truck was also coming from the opposite direction. 

Mr Kyere said all the occupants in the Toyota RAV4 were in funeral clothes, an indication that they were attending a funeral.
