Accra, March 29,GNA – Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has donated food items to the Alajo Central Mosque in Accra and two other mosques in the community.
The items, which included 100 bags of rice, 25 cartons each of cooking oil and tinned tomatoes, were presented to the mosque leadership to support Muslims during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
An undisclosed cash amount was also donated to the Imams for prayers and welfare support.
Eid al-Fitr is an annual celebration by Muslims to mark the end of 29 or 30 days of fasting.
During this period, Muslims are required to be generous to the less privileged, and the vulnerable in society.
As the exact date for the celebration remains uncertain pending the sighting of the crescent on the 29th day of Ramadan, many Muslims are gearing up for the Eid festivities.
The GJA President, who grew up in Alajo, recounted his childhood experiences with Muslim neighbours, emphasising the importance of interfaith solidarity.
“I am a Christian, but I grew up eating with my Muslim brothers during Salah. Religion should unite us, not divide us,” he said.
“Whether Christian or Muslim, we worship one God. Ghana has shown that peaceful coexistence is possible, and we must continue to cherish this.”
Mr Dwumfour described the donation as a “homecoming” gesture, recalling how he once prayed alongside Muslims in the same mosque as a child.
The Alajo Central Mosque, he noted, held deep personal significance, having stood for decades as a symbol of community and faith.
He revealed how he had earlier donated to more than 1,000 households in the community during the Christmas season, reinforcing his commitment to inclusive philanthropy.
The event was attended by journalists, community leaders, and mosque members, who praised the gesture as a model for fostering religious harmony in Ghana.
Sheikh Abubakari Swallah, the Imam of the Mosque, thanked the GJA President for the kind gesture.
He advised the youth to be measured in their celebration during the Eid al-Fitr, adding that it must be in full adherence to Islamic principles.
