Bawku (U/E), March 15, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Bawku Municipal Directorate has organised an inter-school quiz competition for Basic Schools in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region.
The competition, which brought together the Daduri Junior High School, Methodist Junior High School A and Methodist Junior High School B, was part of activities commemorating Ghana’s 68th independence anniversary celebrations.
Mr. Daniel Baya Laar, the Bawku Municipal Director of NCCE, in his opening remarks, stated that the quiz competition was under the Commission’s working theme “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.”
He explained that the exercise was essential to building their capacities as future leaders of the next generation to develop a strong appreciation for the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and understand their role in nation building.
He underscored the quiz competition as critical innovation to promote, cultivate a spirit of patriotism and national consciousness, encourage active participation in governance and civic responsibilities as well as served as educational platform for students to showcase their knowledge and talents.
During the competition, students were asked questions mainly from the 1992 Constitution with a lot of questions centered on the three arms of government and their functions.
There were also questions from other chapters of the Constitution such as the Directive Principles of State Policy, Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms and Territories of Ghana, among others.
Alhaji Muhammadu Issaku, the Bawku Municipal Coordinating Director lauded the NCCE for innovation, adding that such activities motivated students to take their studies seriously and called for the continuity of the activity.

Mr. Issac Agbeko Azaaso, the Bawku Municipal Director of Ghana Education Service applauded the depth in knowledge displayed by the pupils, adding that the quiz competition provided a platform that nurtured qualities such as critical thinking, intellectual growth and teamwork.
He thanked the teachers and mentors who worked hard to prepare the students for the competition,
“Your dedication is invaluable, and your role in shaping the future of our young ones cannot be overstated,” he said.
The Methodist Junior High School B emerged winner at the end of the contest.
Each school was represented with two students and all six representatives were awarded certificates at the end of the competition.
