Garu (U/E), March 16, GNA – The Garu Catholic Junior High School has emerged winner in the 2025 Independence Day quiz, organised by the Garu District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE)
The school garnered 36 points to beat Presby JHS (35 points), Holy Angel JHS (32 points) and Garu D/A JHS (28 points) and winners and participating schools were given various prizes.
The quiz which tested the skills and understanding of the pupils about Ghana’s history, constitution, governance, and civic rights was held on the theme ““Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The competition brought together officials from NCCE, Ghana Education Service (GES), the Commission for Human Rights and Justice (CHRAJ), National Youth Authority (NYA), Teachers/Patrons, students, and religious leaders.
Speaking during the event, Mr Samuel Akolgo, the Garu District Director of the NCCE, said the exercise was part of efforts in deepening the school children’s understanding about the Ghana’s journey with the aim of fostering patriotism and active citizenship among the youth to drive national development.
“The quizzes are part of the Commission’s strategies to get students learn better the contents of the 1992 Constitution”, he said.
“The Constitution has created room for civic education to be used as an important strategy and tool for creating awareness of the main values of democratic governance. Our mandate is instilling the spirit of patriotism and enhancing citizens’ participation in governance.”

Mr Christian Kwaku Adalingea, the District Deputy Director in charge of Supervision GES, commended all the participants for their show of knowledge, adding that the quiz competition had not only tested their knowledge but also reminded them of their collective responsibility to build a better future for the nation.
He added that “let us strive to be responsible citizens, contributing our quota to national development.”
He further commended the NCCE in Garu for organising the competition and said it had helped to broaden the knowledge of the students.
Ghana’s 68th Independence Day Celebration was held on the theme., “Reflect, Review and Reset”.
