Kumasi March 20, GNA – Dr Owusu Fordjour Aidoo, former President of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) Somanya branch of the University Teachers Association (UTAG), has stressed the need for fairness and transparency in the promotion of lecturers at the various universities.

He said it was difficult to understand why promotions of some senior lecturers were often unreasonably delayed for more than three years in some universities.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Dr Aidoo, pointed out that the situation had become a huge concern and disincentive to productivity in some universities.

He pointed out that, there could not be any justification for undue delays in the promotions, adding that, the issue was becoming a systematic inefficiency bedevilling the universities.

“Things are not being done properly and this could not continue. It is time the government intervened to right the wrongs and insert some efficiency and accountability into the running of the universities.”

The former UTAG President underlined the determination of the university teachers to give it their all to keep the universities on the path of growth.

This determination, according to him, should not be held back by either parochial, self-serving interests or ineptitude of the management of the affected universities.
