Focus on God’s promises – JHS preacher urges Christians

By Emmanuel Nyatsikor

Adaklu Kodzobi (V/R), March 17, GNA – Miss Betty Deh, a 15-year-old form three student of the Adaklu Kodzobi Junior High School, has encouraged Christians to remain focused on the promises of God and trust in Him as Abraham did.

She noted that they might surely face challenges and persecutions but when their focus was on Jesus Christ, they would surmount them all.

Miss Deh made the call in a sermon during a thanksgiving and fundraising service at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Edem congregation, at Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu district, to climax the week-long Children Ministry week celebration.

The service was held simultaneously in all congregations of the Church both in Ghana and the Diaspora.

The sermon which was on the theme: “Singleness of purpose,” was taken from Genesis 15: 1 – 12, 17 – 18, Philippians 3: 17 – 4: 1 and Luke 13: 31 – 35.

Miss Deh noted with concern that many Christians were swayed by earthly possessions and were “following the crowd in pursuing the things of the flesh due to economic hardships.”

“God’s promises will surely come to pass in our lives but what matters is for us to have a singleness of purpose and not divert our attentions from the path we have taken as Christians,” she stated.

She urged parents to serve as role models for their wards and also take full control of the moral, physical and spiritual development of them.

Miss Deh exhorted her colleagues to be obedient, respectful and studious and not allow peer pressure to jeopardise their future.

“Our destiny is in our own hands, so let us work hard to develop our latent talents for a brighter future. Let us refrain from drug abuse, fornication and all other forms of vices that will make us miserable,” she advised.

Mr Bright Nyatsikor, Volta and Oti Public Relations Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, who chaired the function advised the children to befriend their books.

He entreated parents to invest heavily in their children’s education to ensure an enormous and very rewarding returns.

As part of the celebrations, symposiums, career educations, Bible quizzes, night of hymns and prayer, talent shows, and drama and cleanup exercises were organised in all Church’s congregations.
