Commission donates tarpaulin tanks to boost fish production at Sunyani Central Prisons

Sunyani, (Bono), March 21, GNA – Professor Berchie Asiedu, the Deputy Executive Director, Technical of the Fisheries Commission has presented two tarpaulin tanks to the Sunyani Central Prisons to boost fish production at the prisons.

He said the tanks were to support fish production as part of the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs Project (AFJ) of the commission. Prof Asiedu made the presentation as part of his visit to the Bono Region.

The Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Williams Kulah, the Bono Regional Commander and Officer-charge of the Sunyani Central Prisons thanked the commission for the gesture.

Prof Asiedu’s visit also took him to the Verifix Farms, an organic farm that integrates fish and vegetable production, and urged them to persevere, despite the challenges confronting the sector.

Mr Seth Asare, the Manager of the Farms said his outfit acknowledged and appreciated the support from the commission and mentioned high costs as well as scarcity of quality fingerlings

as some of challenges facing the aquaculture sector industry. Prof Asiedu also engaged with the staff of the commission in the region and discussed extensively with them on the 2024 activities and achievements of the commission.

He said commission was concerned about the condition of service of the staff as well as the logistical problems, reaffirming its commitment to tackle those challenges and thereby manage the fishery resources in the region effectively.
