Accra, March 27, GNA – Master Abdul Faraj Yezid Timtoni Wumbei, a 15-year-old Junior High School student, has called on the government to intensify efforts to provide improved toilets for poor households.

He emphasized that this initiative is crucial for eradicating open defecation and protecting Ghana’s water resources.

Wumbei, the current Child Sanitation Diplomat, made this appeal during the World Water Day commemoration on March 21 to highlight the link between proper sanitation and water preservation.

A JHS 2 student from Grace Holy Child Academy in Tamale, Wumbei won the 2024 edition of the School Sanitation Solutions Challenge, succeeding Ms. Adjoa Gyakoa Appiah-Kubi.

As Child Sanitation Diplomat, he has been actively raising awareness about protecting the country’s water resources and tackling sanitation issues at the grassroots level to promote better hygiene practices nationwide.

The annual contest, open to pupils from class six to JHS Two, aims to nurture a generation conscious of sanitation. The winner receives a one-year mentorship and campaign project support.

The programme, initiated by World Vision Ghana and Kings Hall Media, is now organized in collaboration with the Zoomlion Foundation, with support from the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate and the Ghana Education Service (GES)/School Health Education Programme (SHEP).
