By Jerry Azanduna

Techiman (Bono East) March 21, GNA -The Bono East Regional office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has exceeded its revenue mobilization targets for the past four years, Mr George Oppong Danquah, the Bono East Regional Manager of the Scheme has said.

He said for the past four years, the scheme’s revenue mobilization hovered around over 95 percent, saying statistics from the scheme’s headquarters in Accra showed that the Bono East exceeded its revenue mobilization targets between 2021 and 2024.

“We have been rated as the best performer in revenue mobilization in the country”, Mr Danquah, stated when addressing the 2024 end of year review meeting of the scheme in Techiman.

“In fact, no region has ever beat Bono East in revenue mobilization since 2021”, he stated, and commended the staff of the scheme and all stakeholders for the achievements.

He called for stakeholders’ support towards tackling challenges including co-payments, poor internet connectivity, and perennial water problem at the regional office in Techiman as well as lack of permanent offices for the Nkoranza, Sene East and Pru East districts.

Mr Danquah said the scheme in the region had also maintained the 93 percent active membership since 2021.

Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister said the government had proposed the allocation of part of the country’s oil proceeds to support the funding of the NHIS that would help expand the scheme’s coverage.

That would not only enhance quality healthcare but also put the nation on the edge to achieve Universal Health Coverage too.

Mr Antwi said expansion of the scheme’s coverage was necessary to benefit vulnerable populations and improve accessibility to healthcare services, especially in rural communities.
