Accra, March 28, GNA – Sightsavers Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Blind Union has held a graduation ceremony for forty-five young persons with disability from its digital and employable skills training programme.

The programme, a part of the broader READY for Inclusive Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship (RISEE) project, aimed to empower individuals with disabilities to fully participate in the Ghanaian job market.

Mr Samson Addo, Programme Manage, who read on behalf Mr David Agyemang, Sightsavers Country Representative, said; “today marks another step in our collective effort to empower persons with disabilities to participate fully in the Ghanaian job market.”

He said the training programme was a contribution to bridging the PWDs gap by equipping participants with the skills they need not only to access opportunities but to thrive in them.

The RISEE project, funded by the Standard Chartered Foundation and implemented by Sightsavers, Challenges Ghana, and the Ghana Blind Union, seeks to place 270 persons with disabilities into sustainable employment over its three-year duration, which began in April 2024.

The graduates testified about how the project has helped them to hone and shape their skills for the job market through various activities.

Addressing employers across the country, Sightsavers appealed for open doors for PWDs in the job market.

Mr Addo said “persons with disabilities are not just looking for jobs; they are bringing skills, commitment, and fresh perspectives that will strengthen your businesses.”

He emphasised that inclusion was not charity but an opportunity for businesses to benefit from untapped potential and announced that Sightsavers was expanding its training opportunities, with upcoming programmes in digital entrepreneurship and employability training in high-demand industries.

He also called for partnerships for mentorship and internship placements to provide graduates with essential real-world experience and congratulated graduates of their hard work and resilience for successfully completing this stage of their capacity-building journey.

“This is just the beginning, the next stage is mentorship and internships, and we are here to support you every step of the way,” he added.
