25th anniversary: Management of BTU awards 26 staff for dedicated service

Bolgatanga, March 26, GNA-Management of the Bolgatanga Technical University in the Upper East Region has awarded 26 staff for their commitment and dedication to the growth of the University.  

The award categories included research impact award, teaching excellence award, community service award, professionalism and leadership awards.  

The awardees were made up of both senior and junior staff who received prizes such as fridges, plaques and citations. 

The awards dinner was part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the University which was celebrated on the theme “25 years of Sustainable TVET Development: Journeying to Technological Advancement”.  

Among those who received awards included Professor Emmanuel Caesar Ayamba (Research Impact Category), Head of Department (HOD) of Procurement and Logistics Management, Dr George Nangpaak Duut (Community Service Category), HOD of Industrial Arts, Eugene Salam Ayoakateng (Teaching Excellence Category), a lecturer in the Building Technology department.  

Mr Samuel Aduko,the Director of Procurement received the staff excellence award, professionalism category while Ms Matilda Azeko (Snr. Assistant registrar-Sectional head in charge of welfare.) received the award for Community Service Non-Teaching.  

The overall best Staff Senior staff member category went to Dr Benjamin Asunka, HOD of Marketing and Communication Studies while Mr Jerome Adigtoye of the Library Department and Mr Samuel Adjei Ajene, chief driver received the overall senior and junior staff category awards respectively. 

Eleven Institutional leadership awards were presented to outgone individuals who held management roles in the University and these included Mr. Robert Akurugu Ajene, founding acting principal (founding University principal), Prof. Francis A. Abangtanga, Former University Council Chairperson, (2017 – 2025), Ambassador Donald Adabre (2010 – 2016), and Emeritus Professor A. A. Alemna (2006 – 2010) were also recognised.  

Professor Paul B. Tanzubil and Dr John Bosco Azigwe were also recognized for their unwavering support and contribution to the growth of the university as Rector and Ag. Rector respectively along with the long-serving registrar of the university, Zangu Rana Ibrahim D Yakubu.  

Others who received Post-Mortem Awards in Institutional Leadership category included Dr Atinga Mba, former Rector, Michael Sebigbon, founding University Secretary/Registrar and Dr Joseph Azunre (Principal) and Mr. R. A Cantey (Acting Principal).  

The University also recognised the Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) for supporting the University during its younger stages of growth and development as well as Mrs. Mary Asayerigama Alosum Anaba for her creativity and dedication in composing the Bolgatanga Technical University Anthem.  

Professor Callistus Tengan, Chairman of the anniversary committee, stated that the award process was meticulously and rigorously done and that those who won the awards were deserving of them, having been dedicated and committed to their respective roles in building the university.  

“Tonight’s award recipients exemplify the highest standards of excellence. Their contributions have not only elevated their own fields but have also inspired and motivated others to strive for greatness” he said.  

The Chairman entreated others who did not win to draw inspiration from those who won and to commit themselves by working to propel the growth and development of the institution. 

Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnna, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, called on all staff to remain united and cited instances where the University had to commit its meagre resources at the court because of litigation.  

“The University stands to grow more than it is if we stop the pull him down syndrome. We are one people with a common vision, dreams and destiny to see this institution grow and should desist from engaging in unnecessary battles that will undermine the growth of this young university”, he admonished
