Accra, March 21, GNA – The excitement at the Accra Sports Stadium was palpable as Ghana’s Black Stars put up a five-star performance and defeated Chad’s Les Sao by five goals.
Captain Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Salisu Mohammed, Ernest Nuamah and Inaki Williams scored for the Black Stars, who won all three points in their fifth match of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The results ensured that Ghana’s Black Stars went top of Group I with 12 points, two ahead of Madagascar in second place. Comoros are third with nine points, followed by Mali in fourth with eight.
Chad are yet to record a win in the group, as they have zero points, while the Central African Republic are second from bottom with four points.
Ghana coach Otto Addo named a strong starting lineup and made a big call with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare starting in post for the Black Stars.
The Black Stars were ruthless at the start of the game and scored their first goal in the second minute, with Semenyo tapping in from close range.
The Les Sao of Chad were largely on the back foot in the game, and their goalkeeper, Mbayanaiseem Jourdain, made some crucial saves to keep their scoreline the same.
But the pressure from the Black Stars was intense, and Inaki Williams scored the cushion goal for Black Stars with a ferocious header from close range on the half hour mark.
It took only five minutes for the Black Stars to score their third after Jordan Ayew scored from the penalty spot after Semenyo was brought down in the area.
The Black Stars kept their three-goal lead intact as the game went into recess.
The Les Sao of Chad came out from the recess with some composure as they tried to string some passes.
Mohammed Salisu, who had a brilliant day in defence, scored the fourth goal for the Black Stars with a brilliant header from close range in the 57th minute.
Ernest Nuamah made it five for the Black Stars in the 69th minute after a brilliant assist from Jordan Ayew.
It was cruise control for the Black Stars as they held onto their emphatic lead to secure all three points at the end of 90 minutes.
The Black Stars would be hoping to keep their spot at the top of the table when they face Madagascar at Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco on Monday, March 24, 2025.
