Tema, Feb. 27, GNA – The Democratic Concerned Youth of Tema West, a group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has petitioned the party’s national chairperson to revisit the nominees short-listed for the position of Tema West Municipal Chief Executive.
In a petition signed by Mr. Godson K. Quarshie, Secretary of the Democratic Concerned Youths of Tema West, available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), they indicated their concerns regarding the three shortlisted MCE nominees for Tema West without the inclusion of Mr. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho, who they described as a grassroots man.
“Notwithstanding his excellent relationship with our Tema West MP – Hon. Lawyer James Enu, and the level of competency, experience, and leadership skills he has exhibited in all his endeavours, we believe Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho deserves to be among the nominees short-listed for the national vetting.”
According to them, as far as district balance was concerned, they believe the MCE must come from the Adjei-Kojoo electoral area, which is recognised as the stronghold of NDC Tema West.
“This is because statistics have shown that, out of the eleven electoral areas in the Tema West Constituency, his electoral area (Adjei-Kojo) alone successfully helped the NDC Tema West garnered 5,600-plus vote difference in the 2024 general elections. This, as a result, contributed to the party’s unprecedented historic victory by winning the Tema West constituency seat for the first time.”
They noted that their preferred candidate had been a branch secretary, assembly member for two electoral areas, chairperson of the Tema West Sub-Metropolitan Assembly, presiding member of TWMA, parliamentary aspirant for Tema West, and the executive secretary of the Chamber for Local Governance.
“As an Executive Secretary of Chamber for Local Governance, he superintended the reversal of the property rates collections to the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs),”
they indicated, adding that “We do not want to believe this is a strategy to sabotage Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho’s contribution to the development of Tema West.”
They cautioned that any attempt to disregard their demand for a review of the shortlist would force them to advise themselves in the elections ahead.
