Accra, Feb 27, GNA – Medical students have been urged to take advantage of the technological era and change with time to advance in the profession, considering the fast and exponential pace at which study and practice are growing.
Professor Afua A.J. Hesse, the President of the Accra College of Medicine (ACM), said the younger generation must grasp the study opportunities available, which never existed in the past, to attain the professional heights they aspired to.
Prof Hesse gave the advice at the 10th matriculation ceremony of the ACM on Friday to officially welcome the new batch of students.
She said in recent years, advancements in technology had revolutionised the acquisition of medical knowledge, its dissemination, and application.
From virtual reality simulations to online learning platforms, the integration of technology in medical education had opened up new possibilities for students, educators, and healthcare professionals to facilitate their work.
Prof Hesse said: “I graduated in December 1976; it was huge textbooks to carry around and read from. You have the advantage of your tablets, make use of that. Technology changes, change in it, and change in the times.”
“At ACM, we nurture, we will nurture your passion, and we will guide you to fulfill your dreams, but it will definitely take a lot of hard work, sweat, and sometimes even tears.”
“Be assured that we are here to support you, but until you tell us what your challenges are, we will not know. So take advantage of the opportunities to receive information and get help.”
Prof Hesse urged the students to take their studies seriously to make themselves and their parents proud and stick to the school’s values.
Mr Anis Haffar, Author, Columnist, and Lecturer, advised the students to live exemplary lives for the development of the country.
He said Ghana needed leaders with exemplary contributions to better the lot of the country and allow their works to speak for them.
