Bolgatanga, Feb. 24, GNA – One soldier has died while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries, after a fatal road crash at Saka near Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The incident which involved a Ghana Armed Forces light-armoured vehicle is said to have occurred around 1600 hours on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Eyewitness account to the Ghana News Agency, indicated that the vehicle was moving from the direction of Bawku towards Bolgatanga at top speed, when one of its tyres suddenly detached from it, causing the driver to lose control, leading to the accident.
The identities of the deceased and the other officers are yet to be made known, however the injured soldiers were rushed to the Zebilla government hospital for treatment and later airlifted to Accra.
The incident adds to several road crashes involving the Ghana Armed Forces on the Bolgatanga-Bawku stretch, as in a similar incident on October 16, 2024, one soldier lost his life after a military vehicle which he was traveling from Bawku to Bolgatanga crashed at Bazua in the Binduri District.
Similarly, two motorbike riders lost their lives in two separate accidents involving military vehicles on February 9, and February 11 this year at Zebilla and Bazua respectively.
