Nkwanta (O/ R), Feb. 13, GNA-The residents of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region have shared their views on the importance of radio in community development to mark the “World Radio Day” celebration.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, some residents said radio was a staple of daily life, providing news, information and entertainment to many audiences.

They also emphasised the ability of radio to reach marginalised communities and promote social change, such as raising awareness on key issues such as climate change, education and health.

Others also said they relied on radio for information on social, political, environmental, sports and tourism related issues.

“It is so easy to get access to information about a particular issue across the world with radio regardless of my location because I can use my mobile phone to tune to any radio station around me”, Mr Richard Amevor, a resident of Nkwanta, said.

“I rely on radio for news, music, entertainment and it is an integral part of my daily routine,” Madam Adjoa Pampamwie, known as Radio Mama, said.

World Radio Day is celebrated annually on February 13 to commemorate the impact of radio in nation building.
