Berekum, (Bono), Feb. 28, GNA – Mr Eric Donkor, the Berekum Area Manager of the National Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has appealed for support to stem the rising illegal power connections in Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region.

He said illegal power connection was gaining disturbing proportions in the municipality, saying the Company required collective support to bring the situation under control.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Berekum, Mr Donkor therefore urged the public to report suspected cases to the NEDCo, saying illegal power connections endangers the lives of everybody.

“The illegal power connection is noted among people with the post-paid meters, and we must all remain vigilant and report the perpetrators for action to be taken,” he advised.

Mr Donkor expressed the worry that said though some of the perpetrators had been arrested and prosecuted the problem persisted in the municipality, saying illegal extension of power to homes, workplaces and institutions partly contributed to fire disasters.

He also warned those selling metres to desist from the practice, and entreated customers using the post-paid meters to also try and settle their bills too.
