Wa, (UW/R), Feb. 14, GNA – The Upper West Regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has celebrated this year’s National Chocolate Day with children on admission at the Paediatric Unit of the Upper West Regional Hospital.
As part of the celebration, the Authority donated chocolate, bottled water, diapers, and toiletries among others to the unit to show love to the children and their parents or caregivers.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to present the items, Mr Moses Ndewin Ndebugri, the Upper West Regional Director of the GTA, said the gesture was occasioned by the recognition of the National Chocolate Day, a special day, and a day to show love to people.
He added that it was an activity marked by the Authority annually to promote the consumption of nutritious food, especially made in Ghana chocolate.
“We want to encourage people to consume made in Ghana chocolate and other products to increase our domestic tourism,” Mr Ndebugri stated.

Mrs Charity Arah Naayere, the Head of Nursing at the Upper West Regional Hospital, commended the GTA for the gesture and said it would be of great help to the children and their parents or caregivers at the Unit.
She said the toiletries and the diapers, for instance, would help improve sanitation among the clients at the Unit and would also reduce the expenditure of the facility in purchasing toiletries for the clients’ use.
She appealed to the charity community in the region and beyond to extend a helping hand and show love to the children at the Unit in diverse ways including settling their hospital bills.

February 14 is marked annually in Ghana as National Chocolate Day as part of efforts to enhance the local consumption of chocolate and cocoa products.
It was first instituted by the Ministry of Tourism in 2005, aimed to promote the health and nutritional benefits of cocoa and use chocolate as a symbol of love during Valentine’s Day.
