Accra, Feb 15, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
The President, who arrived in Addis Ababa after attending the Munich Security Conference in Germany, was met on arrival at the airport in Addis Ababa by Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, who took the led to the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (Ministerial Session), which was from 12th - 13th February.
The 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, which is from 15th to 16th February, is on the theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.”
The Summit is expected to focus on focus on advancing reparatory justice and fostering racial healing across the continent.
The Summit is expected to elect the next Chairperson of the AU Commission.
Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat, the current Chairperson of the AU Commission, is expected to step down on February 15.
Key contestants for his replacement include Mr Raila Odinga, a former Prime Minister of Kenya; Mr Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Djibouti’s Foreign Minister; and Mr Richard Randriamandrato, a former Foreign Minister of Madagascar.
