Accra, Feb. 7, GNA – The KGL Group of Companies has begun the construction of a state-of-the-art mental health facility in Kumasi, a groundbreaking initiative to enhance mental healthcare in the Ashanti Region.
This multimillion-dollar project, expected to be completed within 12 months, is the first of its kind in the northern part of Ghana and forms part of the company’s commitment to the well-being of the communities it serves.
Speaking on the project, the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Mr Alex Dadey, emphasised the importance of mental health in overall well-being.
“Our investment in this facility underscores our commitment to improving mental health awareness and resources in Ghana. We believe that mental health is a vital component of wellness, and we are dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote mental health education and care,” he stated.
Highlighting the company’s past initiatives, Mr Alex Dadey, a key figure in the project, noted, “This latest endeavour builds upon our previous efforts in support of Asanteman. Notably, we played a key role as one of the major contributors to the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin, honouring His Majesty’s significant legacy and contributions to the community.
As we celebrate 25 significant years of Otumfuo’s reign, it is imperative that we continue to support Asanteman, and the KGL Group is committed to doing so.”
The facility, being developed through the KGL Foundation, is set to provide comprehensive mental health services to meet the increasing needs of individuals facing mental health challenges in the region.
It will not only serve the people of Asanteman but also extend its services to neighbouring regions, ensuring improved access to critical mental health resources.
The construction of the facility adds to KGL Group’s long-standing contributions to the development of Asanteman.
HRH Lady Julia Osei Tutu, speaking on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed deep appreciation for KGL Group’s initiative.
She highlighted the critical need for improved mental healthcare in Ghana, emphasising how the facility will help combat mental health stigma and transform access to mental health support in the Ashanti Region.
“Ghana’s mental health sector is in dire need of support. This facility will make a significant difference, and I want to thank Alex Dadey and Elliot Dadey, who runs the foundation, for this massive intervention,” she remarked.
Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, a champion of Public-Private Partnership business models in Africa, has been instrumental in supporting healthcare initiatives through the KGL Foundation.
The foundation has provided free incubators and medical devices to several healthcare facilities across Ghana and continues to ensure sustainable healthcare financing for orphans, widows, and vulnerable children.
With the commencement of this ultramodern mental health facility, KGL Group reaffirms its commitment to the socio-economic development of the Ashanti Region. It is taking a bold step toward de-stigmatizing mental health issues and ensuring accessible, quality care for all.
