Kaizen Institute for Labour Economics inaugurated to formulate policies for labour market

Accra, Feb. 19, GNA-Kaizen Institute for Labour Economics has been inaugurated to formulate right policies for government, social partners and labour market. 

The institution also aims to improve employment productivity and discipline at work place for Ghana’s economic development. 

Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, Former Secretary General of Trade Union Congress and Executive Director of Kaizen Institute for Labour Economics explained that the establishment of the institute was to support social partners to collectively formulate and implement appropriate employment and wage policies, improve productivity, and conduct peaceful industrial relations and social dialogue toward a sustainable socio-economic development. 

He said Ghana was faced with wage and employment challenges therefore, there was a need to increase awareness of good wages to enable employees accountable to their productive requirements. 

“If you don’t pay the workers well, you can be sure that they would not be productive as you want. So, we are hoping that this will help government, employers and unions”, he added. 

Dr Baah said the Institute was also poised to create policies for strategic planning to provide job for the youth and increase wages. 

“You have to provide the incentives for every worker to work to meet the salary that you have decided to pay him or she to ensure quality productivity, and this is what we want to help with the establishment of this institution”, he said. 

Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, speaking at the opening ceremony said the institute was essential to aid in the developmental process of the country. 

He said knowing the benefits and policies to implement as far as productivity and employee development was concerned was a good step forward to ensure citizens patronised the institution. 

He said Kaizen in Japanese means productivity, and the institution should emulate it with discipline. 

He congratulated the Dr Baah for his ability to help Ghana through labour development and Trades Union Congress. 

The vision of the institute is to be the preferred source of expert advice on labour market policy, industrial relations, and productivity improvement. 

The inaugural service was graced by stakeholders and members of the trade union congress.
