GTA distributes chocolates to children at Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Paediatric Unit

Takoradi, Feb. 14, GNA – The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has celebrated this year’s National Chocolate Day with children at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Paediatric Unit in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.  

The gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the children and their parents through the sharing of chocolate and other cocoa-based products as a way of showing love to the under privileged in society.  

It was on the theme: “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” with the subtheme: “Chocolate for All: Taste, Share and Care.” 

The celebration was in collaboration with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Ghana Cocoa Processing Company, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. 

Mr Henry Yeledour, the Western Regional Director of the GTA, said the Day was celebrated on February 14 annually by the Authority to celebrate and show love to the less privileged in society using chocolates. 

He said: “This year, all the 16 regional offices of the GTA are commemorating the National Chocolate Day at the regional hospitals, and we in the Western Region are here in the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Paediatric Unit to put smile on the faces of these children and their families.” 

He said the theme highlighted the medicinal and nutritional values of Ghana’s cocoa-based products, saying, “As you give any of these products to your loved ones, you promote their health and wellbeing.” 

Madam Kate Botwey, Head of Nurse at the Paediatric Unit, Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, expressed gratitude to the GTA for the putting joy and smile on the faces of children and families at Unit.  

“We appreciate the Ghana Tourism Authority for coming here to celebrate with us. Kids love gift so this act of generosity will go a long way to make them and us, staff happy,” she said. 

The National Chocolate Day is celebrated every year to put a spotlight on Ghana’s unique cocoa products, making the country a preferred destination for cocoa-based tourism, while also appreciating the contributions of all stakeholders in the industry.
