Sunyani, (Bono), Feb 28, GNA – Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) has called on the government to include private schools in the Free Senior High School (FSHS) and Capitation Grant programmes.

The association reminded the government of its integral role towards promoting quality education in the country, urging its inclusion in the implementation of the programmes for the benefit of most children.

“The government must also consider cancelling some taxes and thereby make the private education schools flexible to operate,” Professor Damasus Tuurosong, the President of the GNAPS stated.

He was speaking at the launch of the GNAPS Week on the theme “Artificial Intelligence: A tool for driving education in the 21st century”, held in Sunyani and reminded President John Dramani Mahama to endeavour to fulfil his Election 2024 campaign promise he made to the private schools.

“The President promised to absorb the registration fees of candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination of private schools, and we look to him to fulfil that campaign promise and others,” Prof Tuurosong stated.

“Other promises of the President included extension of the FSHS programme to benefit private schools, abolish nuisance taxes, review property rates and business operating permits and above all fix the country’s economy to create a conducive business environment for private schools to operate.”

Prof Tuurosong called on the government to also consider supporting some of the deserving private schools with infrastructure too.

Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister commended the Association for its contribution towards the development of education, saying and lauded their readiness to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the education sector.
