Bolgatanga, Feb. 24, GNA – The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in Bongo District of the Upper East Region has appreciated Naba Adendaa Awomyalum II, the Chief of Zorko-Kodorogo for his commitment and contribution to health service delivery in the area.
The Chief, among other initiatives, mobilized resources and constructed the Zorko Health Centre, a medical laboratory unit and procured equipment for the facility to promote universal health coverage.
Management of the GHS in the District, who recognized Naba Awomyalum II’s outstanding contribution to health service delivery, honoured him with a citation at the 2024 annual health performance review meeting of the district.
The meeting was held in Bolgatanga on the theme: “Using Network of Practice to drive universal access to quality maternal health care in the Upper East Region.”
Ms Estella Abazesi, the District Director of the GHS, in the citation on behalf of the Service, acknowledged the Chief’s efforts in championing health programmes and advocacy for quality healthcare.
“As a pillar of progress, your support for health initiatives has improved healthcare infrastructure and fostered a culture of wellness within the community, through your leadership, critical health initiatives such as the construction of the Zorko Health Centre and subsequently a laboratory facility have been implemented.
“Again, you mobilized resources to procure equipment for the health facility and the laboratory unit to ensure better healthcare access and improved living conditions for all,” the citation read.
The Service further noted that the exemplary leadership of the Chief continued to inspire progress and foster a healthier future for unborn generations, “We salute your noble contributions and honour your legacy of service,” the management of the GHS said.
Naba Awomyalum II, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the programme ,expressed excitement about the honour, and thanked management of the Service for recognizing his efforts.
He underscored the need for proper healthcare system for his community members, and said after the facility was constructed through community mobilization, he further rallied sons and daughters of the community, based in southern Ghana for funds to buy equipment for the newly established laboratory.
“My people’s health and well-being are of concern to me. So immediately I was enskinned by the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional area, my people’s health was my priority,” . Naba Awomyalum II said.
