Accra, Feb 28, GNA – Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, Ghana’s Chief Imam, has officially announced the commencement of the Ramadan fast on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
The announcement came after the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon in parts of the Upper West, Ashanti, and Savanna regions.
Addressing the media on Friday evening, Sheikh Armeyaw Shuaib, the spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, said ” the Ramadan new moon has been sighted in the Upper West region specifically at Wa, in the Savannah region specifically at Buipe and in the Ashanti region specifically at Adugyama.”
Muslims world wide will be observing the obligatory fast either for 29 or 30 days in fulfillment of the fourth pillar of Islam.
The fast is characterized by intense worship, abstainance from edibles, drinks and sex during the day.
Muslims are required to practice self restraint and stay away from prohibited acts during the one month period.
