Accra, Feb.17, GNA – The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) will storm the streets of Accra with its Independence Day Armwrestling Championship on March 6.
The championship, dubbed “Battle for Independence” would be GAF’s first official event after excelling at the 13th Africa Games, recording 41 medals.
This year’s edition would feature some of the continent’s top pullers who are hoping to battle in strength for the bragging rights.
World Champion, Grace Minta would also lead a star-studded Ghanaian contingent to mark a thrilling and unpredictable showdown for the West African giants.
Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said the Battle for Independence was organized to spice up Ghana’s Independence Celebration, revealing the role of sports in national unity.
“Armwrestling has been one of the fastest growing sports in Ghana and Africa. We made history at the Africa Games for the first time and Ghanaians have since shown so much love for the sports. In celebrating the Independence Day, the team thought it wise to organise the Independence Day Armwrestling Championship just to add up to the whole celebration,” he said.
He appealed to corporate Ghana to come onboard and support GAF in hosting a successful event.
