Keta (VR), Feb 20, GNA-Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) at Keta in the Volta region have joined the nationwide strike which commenced on Thursday, February 20.
The intended strike by the CLOGSAG was in protest of the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway which they claimed was politically motivated.
A visit by Ghana News Agency, to the Keta Municipal Assembly, on Thursday, February 20, at about 0930 hours, revealed no sign of CLOGSAG members at work.
It has been identified that all other offices, which included the Social Welfare Department, Records, Client Service Unit, Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, Statistical Department Unit, among were locked, indicating the compliance to the strike actions.
Some of the CLOGSAG members the GNA engaged with, expressed dissatisfaction about government inability to comply with their grievances and urged all members to lay off their tools until further notice.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samuel Saglago, the Volta Regional Organiser for the CLOGSAG, in an earlier interview with the Ghana News Agency, urged members to adhere to all strike procedures.
“We are ready to resume work any moment if government complies with our calls to remove Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the birth and death register,” he said.
The CLOGSAG, however, in their statement said that Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway was still at post and represented the Birth and Death Registry at the recent budget hearing held at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs which took place on Monday, February 18, 2025.
The CLOGSAG believed Mr. Botchway’s appointment was problematic due his previous political positions held in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which could interfere with proper functioning of Birth and Death Registry.
