Ho (V/R), Feb. 17, GNA – Residents of Anyako-Konu, currently living in Ho, have called on their traditional leaders to provide updates on the prolonged water crisis affecting Anyako and its surrounding communities in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.
According to the residents, the decade-old water scarcity issue had disrupted daily life, making it difficult for them to visit their hometown whenever they wish.
They expressed concerns about the lack of progress in resolving the crisis and other stalled developmental projects.
Reverend Dr. Seth T.K. Dzokoto, Vice Chairperson of the Anyako-Konu Residents in Ho, Association, raised these concerns during a meeting held on Sunday, February 17 in Ho, with chiefs and Queen mothers from Anyako.
The meeting aimed to seek clarity on efforts being made to address the pressing water challenge and other developmental needs of the community.
In response, Torgbui Agbetsizewu IV, spokesperson for Paramount Chief Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, provided an update on the measures taken so far.
He revealed that the community had previously attempted to drill a borehole at Heluvi, but despite initial success in finding water, efforts to raise funds for piping and distribution did not materialise.
Furthermore, Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII personally financed the installation of another borehole at the EP Park to serve the community. However, when the facility was handed over to the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, the agency declined to manage it.
“The Community Water people said we had offended them, so they refused to take charge of the water supply system,” Torgbui Agbetsizewu IV disclosed.
Faced with this setback, he added that the next plan was to formally petition the new government to intervene and prioritize the provision of potable water to the community.
Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, who was present at the meeting, urged the residents to engage the Municipal Assembly once a new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) was appointed and assured them that, through collective effort between the community and local government, their concerns would be addressed.
Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII also encouraged the citizens to unite and take proactive steps toward development.
He advised them to strengthen their union and identify community-based initiatives they could undertake collectively, assuring them of the support of the traditional leadership whenever necessary.
The meeting, which brought together hundreds of citizens in Ho, chiefs, and queen mothers from Anyako underscored the urgency of addressing the long-standing water crisis and rekindled hope for collaborative action towards sustainable solutions.
