Otoase Amanfro (E/R), Feb 25, GNA – Nana Odoi Aboah III, Chief of Otoase Amanfro near Coaltar in the Eastern Region, has commended the Coaltar District Police for the swift removal of a floating body in the River Koran, the only source of drinking water for the people.
The immediate response by the police, he said, would prevent the contamination of the water, which serves about 10,000 inhabitants of Otoase Amanfro, Dentekrom and surrounding communities, including Boahenekrom, Kwaku Tawiah, Kwaalete and Akura.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Otoase Amanfro on Wednesday, Nana Aboah said some women Tuesday morning went to fetch water from the river and saw the body floating.
He said the unit committee and the Assembly member quickly reported the incident to the Coaltar Police, who wasted no time in removing the body and depositing it at the Police Hospital Morgue for Autopsy.
Nana Aboah appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Ministry of Health to take the necessary steps to disinfect the river to ensure its wholesomeness.
