‘Bring development to our area’- Avenor Paramount Chief urges Ahiafor

Akatsi (VR), Feb. 20, GNA – Togbe Dorglo Anumah VI, the Paramount Chief of the Avenor Traditional Area and President of the Avenor Traditional Council, has commended Mr Bernard Ahiafor on his new position as the first Deputy Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of Ghana.  

He stated that his elevation was a source of great pride to all.   

“As we celebrate this milestone, we also look forward with great anticipation to the numerous opportunities and benefits that your new position can bring to our community.  

“We are hopeful that this achievement will pave the way for accelerated development in areas such as education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and infrastructure in our Traditional Area,” he said.   

Togbe Dorglo, a member of both the Regional and National House of Chiefs made the appeal in Accra during a courtesy call on Mr Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South after he was elected to the office of First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament.  

“We are aware that your role is that of a legislator and as such you have no dedicated budgets for the nature of works, such as building schools, roads and hospitals. However, as our ambassador who we have placed on an elevated pedestal, you have the unique opportunity of meeting a diverse array of people and helping us lobby for our needs. Rt. Hon. That is what we expect of you,” he said.  

Togbe Dorglo, after describing what he called the ‘Golden Age in Avenor’ remained confident that Mr Ahiafor’s position would bring honor to Akatsi South and the entire Traditional Area through integrity, wisdom, and commitment to the principles of good governance.  

Other members from the Traditional Council and some selected focus group leaders including Torgbui Azibodzi III, the ‘Dufia’ of Agorve, Zikpuitor George Agbavor, Mama Yeasidi III, Paramount Queen Mother of Avenor, and others who spoke during the engagement, centered their discussions on health, security, skills development, education, and several others.   

Torgbui Azibodzi on his part, indicated that focusing on the key issues such as getting a Divisional status for the Police Command in the Municipality among others, would likely create a foundation for holistic and sustainable development.  

Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Adaklu who joined the meeting on behalf of the Volta MPs, reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to the Region and the good people of Akatsi South.   

He further revealed that the government would ensure that Ghanaians have access to good roads and others, pledging that Akatsi South is no exception.  

Mr Agbodza also expressed his deepest satisfaction about the level of maturity exhibited so far by Mr Ahiafor after he was elected to another high office where he carefully discharged his duties assigned to him, among which involved the vetting of Ministerial nominees by the President.  

Mr Ahiafor, who took his turn to address the delegation, stated that his elevation was one for both his constituents and the people of the Volta Region, as well as all Ghanaians.   

He thanked Togbega Dorglo and his revered chiefs, queen mothers, and the entire delegation for the visit.  

“I pledge my incorruptible dedication to the constituency and promise to do good to all manner of persons, for the development of our motherland. Together, let’s build the Akatsi South, the Volta Region, and the Ghana we want together,” he stated.  

Mr Ahiafor promised the delegation he would do his best to get positive solutions to their requests.  

He appealed to all stakeholders to rally behind him and other leaders in society for growth.    

Amongst many things discussed were locating Akatsi South Constituency in the plans of President John Dramani Mahama’s resetting Ghana agenda, and the role of all stakeholders.
