Anyaa All Saints Lutheran Church dedicates new church building, astro turf

Accra, Feb. 24, GNA – The Anyaa Branch of the All Saints Lutheran Church on Sunday dedicated its new chapel in Accra, with a call on the Church to invest in the development of its community.

The multipurpose building, which includes other facilities, such as a cafeteria and an adjoining astro turf, was financed through internally generated funds of the church.

The dedication ceremony was performed on Sunday by Reverend John Shadrach Donkoh, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana.

Rev. Donkoh said the completion of the new church building would bring relief to congregants after years of battling with flooding, which had affected the Church’s activities.

“It is a special day because everybody sees the massive change that has occurred here. The Church has contributed a lot to the community. We take care of over 300 children since we came here,” he said.

Rev. Donkoh emphasized that giving back to the community was one of the Church’s priorities, adding that it would continue to support the vulnerable in the community.

He noted that it was the Church’s vision for all its operational regions across the country to have both a church and a school.

The Lutheran Church was founded in the early sixteenth century when German monk Martin Luther protested against the Roman Catholic Church’s practice of selling indulgences as part of penance, or punishment, for those who sinned against church teachings.

The Church established its presence in Ghana with the first congregation in 1958. Today, the Lutheran Church has 28 congregations and 120 preaching stations across the country, with about 10,000 members.
