Accra, Feb. 21, GNA – The Accra Girls’ Old Students Association (AGOSA) has donated assorted items to the Christ Faith Foster Home at Fafraha in the Adentan Municipality, Greater Accra, to make life comfortable for the children in the month of love.

The donation, made on Valentine’s Day, included an undisclosed cash amount, chocolate bars and toffees, rice and sugar, washing powder/toilet soaps, tomato paste, soft drinks, bottled/sachet water, cooking oil, and sardines.

The others were sanitary towels, clothing, plastic bowls, dustbins, long brooms, and metal buckets. Professor Adelaide Naa Amerley Kastner, the National President of AGOSA, presenting the items, said God created the children for a special purpose but they faced challenges due to circumstances beyond their control.

She said it was a test to society to show them love and that was in line with AGOSA’s holistic approach and core values. “Love in itself is healing.

Many a time, society does not perceive that…But when people are loved, love can make you feel better. The woes and the stresses are eliminated and they begin to heal even from within,” she said. She encouraged men, old students’ associations, and other groups and entities to emulate AGOSA’s initiative and donate towards the wellbeing of the less privileged in society.

With February 14 celebrated as the Chocolate Day in Ghana, members of AGOSA distributed chocolates to the children, highlighting its benefits.

Prof Kastner said chocolates contained antioxidants that protected cells from damage caused by free radicals.

“Chocolates also help to slow down the aging process while providing the body with vitamins,” she said, and advocated their consumption as well as other cocoa-based products to enhance the immune system. Mr Adu Amoako, Father to the Home, expressed gratitude to AGOSA for the kind gesture and prayed for God’s blessings in all its activities.

“Thinking of each of us is something. Not all people get this thought. So, to think of us and come here to show us love on a love day is something we appreciate very much,” he said. Some students of the Accra Girls Senior High School (AGISS) joined the AGOSA members to interact with the children. Sompa Amponsem Darkowaa, Students Representative Council Vice President, expressed excitement for joining AGOSA to show love to the children.

Nana Yaa Asamoah Mensah, SRC Organiser, urged her colleagues to cherish the privilege of enjoying quality education and make good use of the resources available to them. Nana Efua Pokua Aninakwah, Head Prefect, AGISS, said it was her first time visiting a foster home and that the visit had enlightened her on the essence of giving.

“The little we give can actually make an impact on people’s lives. So, we should make it our hobby to give always.”
