Ada Foah, Feb. 28, GNA – Professor Prince Boateng, Principal of the Ada College of Education (ADACOE), has called for the urgent relocation of the institution as the sea erosion continues to pose a threat to its existence.
Prof. Boateng, speaking on the state of the college, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the growing impact of coastal erosion was a deep concern to the school, describing it as the biggest threat to the institution’s future.
He emphasised the urgent need for a sea defence project to protect the college from the advancing shoreline, stating that given the rate at which the sea was approaching, he believed relocation was the best lasting solution.
He said even though under his leadership he had spearheaded some development projects for the institution, some challenges still existed, such as inadequate water supply and poor road networks leading to the school.
He, however, stressed that these issues were manageable compared to the existential threat posed by the eroding sea.
He, therefore, called on the government and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action, warning that without intervention, the safety of students and staff could be at serious risk.
According to him, relocating the college to a more stable environment would not only ensure its survival but also provide a more secure and conducive atmosphere for learning and teacher training.
The Ada College of Education (ADACOE) was established in 1965 in response to the Education Act of 1961. It was the first college of education in Ghana to launch an e-portal for teaching practice supervision.
When GNA visited the school, it was observed that the sea was about 100 meters from the school land.
