Vienna, Feb 1, (dpa/GNA) – A 20-year-old man attempted to evade a police traffic check in Austria, reaching speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour at
times, resulting in injuries to five people, including two police officers.
Authorities reported that during the chase that began late Thursday, the man ignored red lights, overtook on the hard shoulder of the motorway, and did
not slow down even in foggy conditions.
Even in the poor visibility conditions, he was said by police to have driven at 190 km/h.
Eventually, he crashed into several vehicles at a crossroads in the Wels area of Upper Austria, including the car of an unmarked police unit.
A policeman, a policewoman and a motorist were injured in the incident. The speeder and his female passenger also suffered injuries.
The car was not registered for road use, the number plates were stolen and the driver did not have a driving licence.
