16 Artillery Brigade commissioned at 66 Artillery Regiment

Ho (V/R), Feb. 28, GNA – A historic milestone in Ghana’s military history was achieved as the 16 Artillery Brigade was officially commissioned at the 66 Artillery Regiment in Volta Barracks, Ho.

The event marked a new chapter in artillery operations, with the brigade continuing a proud legacy that dates back to April 16, 1966.

The ceremony was highlighted by the lowering of the 66 Artillery Regiment’s flag and the raising of the 16 Artillery Brigade’s flag, signifying the birth of a new brigade.

Additionally, the commanding officers of the 66, 67, and 68 Artillery Regiments received their unit flags, officially assuming leadership of their respective commands.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brigadier General Asare, who served as the Guest of Honour, emphasised the importance of the brigade’s flag.

“A flag is more than just a piece of cloth. It represents unity, patriotism, commitment, and the sacrifices of past and present artillery officers. The 16 Artillery Brigade must uphold these values as they embark on their new mission,” he stated.

Brigadier General Selorm Amengor, Commander of the 16 Artillery Brigade, reaffirmed that artillery remains the backbone of military support, ensuring firepower, tactical advantage, and protection for advancing troops.

He highlighted the importance of precision, teamwork, and collective effort, stating: “Teamwork is our ammunition, trust is our trajectory, and victory is our target.”

Addressing the gathering, Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their dedication and professionalism.

He described the commissioning of the 16 Artillery Brigade as not just a military milestone but also a testament to Ghana’s commitment to national security and defence excellence.

“I am proud to witness this historic moment. The dedication of our armed forces is admirable, and this transition reflects Ghana’s continuous effort to strengthen its military capacity. Congratulations to the leadership and personnel of the 16 Artillery Brigade. May you continue to serve Ghana with honour, discipline, and unwavering dedication,” he said.

The establishment of the 16 Artillery Brigade marks a strategic expansion of Ghana’s defense forces, ensuring greater firepower, coordination, and readiness to respond to national security challenges.

As the brigade embarks on its mission, it carries with it a legacy of discipline, strength, and excellence, reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to peace and security.
