Accra, Jan 9, GNA – The Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF) Ghana Network, has extended a heartfelt congratulations to Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, on her historic feat as the first female Vice President of Ghana.
The group described her feat as a milestone which “highlights her resilience, dedication, and exceptional leadership in breaking barriers for women in politics and inspiring future female leaders.”
A statement signed by Madam Melody Darkey, National Coordinator of WiLDAF and copied the GNA, expressed confidence that her tenure would “bring fresh perspectives and transformative changes, promoting inclusivity and gender responsiveness.”
The group said her success as the first female vice president of Ghana was crucial for solidifying women’s leadership in Ghana, inspire future female leaders as well as promote gender equality to drive significant socio-economic advancements.
WiLDAF also congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his resounding victory and urged him to provide the necessary support and resources to the Vice President to ensure she effectively fulfilled her mandate.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, has been a trailblazer with a distinguished career marked by pioneering achievements, from being the first female vice-chancellor of a public university to becoming Ghana’s first female vice-president.
Her career underscored the importance of advancing gender equality and social inclusion and as a Vice-Chancellor of UCC, she championed gender equity, leading initiatives to support female students and staff.
As Minister for Education, she implemented policies that improved access to education for girls and marginalized children.
