Tarkwa (W/R), Jan 9, GNA – Stakeholders in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality have accessed the progress of work on some projects being implemented by AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine for the Municipality.

Mr Stephen Adjei, Senior Manager -Sustainability, led the inspection tour and was joined by Mr Benjamin Kessie, outgoing Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem, representatives from the Assembly, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, traditional authorities, media personnel, and the mining company.

The first stop of the inspection tour was the site proposed for the Tarkwa multi-purpose community center, they then proceeded to the Tamso Anglican Basic School where the Mine had completed a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities.

Next, the team visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), site at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital in Bogrekrom, where they saw how the work was ongoing.

Throughout the inspection, the stakeholders were briefed on the various projects and they also asked questions and provided feedback on the projects they saw.

The Senior Manager -Sustainability, thanked the stakeholders for being available for the inspection, stressing that they should not hesitate to make input when they noticed anything unusual about the projects they were executing.

He said, “In AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine our core value is to make a positive contribution towards an enduring world, and you have all seen what we have done.”

“I am happy stakeholders are excited with what we have done when the team surveyed the NICU construction site, while we spent GH¢6,556,721.74 to build such an edifice not only for residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality, but Ghana as a whole. I am sure it is going to be one of the best that the country will have.”

“The multi-purpose social center is not only for entertainment. We are going to have a children’s playground, a place for adults and the aged to visit during the festive seasons. I am sure it is also going to elevate the status of Tarkwa Nsuaem and with the Tarkwa and Aboso stadium, we have the social center, it is a good complement” he explained.

At the Tamso Anglican Basic School, Mr Adjei stated that he was extremely impressed with the work done, saying “if you look at how we have tiled the whole place, writing board, lighting systems, ceiling fans, staff common room, Information Communication Technology laboratory, disabled walk ways and wash rooms, this is what we want to see as a nation”.

He further emphasized that, aside these projects, the Mine was working on more of such projects and would soon organize a similar inspection tour for their stakeholders, adding, “I

am actually happy that we have stakeholders within the municipality who appreciate what we are doing and are ready to support.”

Mr Kessie thanked AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine for fulfilling their obligations to its host communities and the residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality and even beyond.

He also thanked Mr George Mireku Duker, former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency and a former foundation member of the Mine for been instrumental in all the projects that were approved and constructed for the residents.

“There are lots of things that has been tabled for action, so going forward we expect that the new government will continue at least for the benefit of the people of Tarkwa” Mr Kessie noted

At the end of the tour, some traditional rulers, media personnel and individuals described the inspection as a success to the GNA and said it had demonstrated the value of collaboration and transparency between the Mine and its stakeholders.
