Takoradi, Jan. 6, GNA – Sixty-five members of the Ghana Blind Union (GBU), in the Western Region have been treated to a feast to make their new year more worthwhile.
The event, which is in its sixth edition and hosted by 233times.com, an online news channel, is dubbed: “Jawuley with the Visually Impaired.”
The day was packed with various activities, including haircuts, pedicures, manicures, and a sumptuous feast.
The initiative also featured the continuation of the ‘Vision Project,’ aimed at providing sustainable support for the members.
The ‘Jawuley with the Visually Impaired’ initiative, “continued to leave an indelible mark on the lives of its beneficiaries inspiring hope and sense of belonging.”
As part of the project, a seed capital of GH₵5,000 was set aside to help members start businesses, enabling them to achieve financial independence.
Nana Kwesi Coomson, Coordinator of the programme said the seed capital initiative was to empower members of the GBU to become self-reliant by starting small businesses rather than depending on others for their daily survival.
With its unique blend of celebration and empowerment, the programme had grown to become a significant part of the New Year festivities for the visually impaired in the Region.
Mr Emmanuel Ampaabeng, a member of the organising team, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the numerous supporters who made the event a reality.
He particularly thanked Corpnation Foundation, Deo Gratis, Sticheez, Adonab Event Foundation, Wenette Hope Foundation, Empowered Men in USA, Virtuous Boardroom, Caddy Sleek Touch, Aseda Foundation, Philip Osei Bonsu, host of Ekosiisen, Mr. Justice Acquah, Managing Director of Prestea Sankofa Gold Mines, Lawyer Fiifi Buckman, Member of Parliament-elect for Kwesimintsim Constituency for making the event possible.
He noted that collective efforts contributed to the success of the programme and provided hope for the visually impaired community in the Western Region.
