Accra, Jan. 1, GNA – It was a dream come true for Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale as he performed for the first time in Jamaica at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street Concert.

The highly anticipated concert held at the National Stadium in Kingston, saw dancehall icon Vybz Kartel return to the stage for the first time since being released from prison six months ago.

It was a celebration of dancehall music at the National Stadium, which holds about 35,000 people, with numerous artistes including Popcaan, Spice, and Busta Rhymes, performing at the concert.

Shatta Wale, the only international guest artiste from Africa, made an appearance at the concert having been introduced on stage by Vybz Kartel.

The multi-award-winning Ghanaian musician performed his popular tune “On God” as well as “Already,” which he collaborated on with global superstar Beyoncé.

His performance served as a connection between African and Jamaican cultures through music, demonstrating how dancehall has crossed borders.

After his performance, Shatta Wale admitted that it was a historic event for him because it was his first time performing in Jamaica.

“I want to say thank you; this is my first time performing in Jamaica, and I have always wished to perform with you on stage. Thank you so much, and God bless you,” Shatta Wale told Vybz Kartel.

The Freedom Street Concert was largely successful and marked a historic moment for Vybz Kartel, who spent 13 years behind bars as he seeks to relaunch his already stellar career.
